Position summary:
Kaleido Biosciences is seeking an exceptional, highly motivated Scientist to play a key role in the company’s efforts to ascertain the effect of novel therapeutics in animal models of disease including effects on the microbiome and microbiome-mediated host physiology. This individual will join a dynamic, highly collaborative team that combines significant drug discovery experience with leading edge knowledge of microbiome biology and computational approaches.
The Pharmacology team at Kaleido is responsible for identifying animal models relevant to specific disease areas, determining translational value of these models, and their design and execution at contract research organizations (CROs)/academic labs. Other key responsibilities include assessment of novel chemistries in microbiome-focused pharmacodynamic and mechanistic studies, and generation of in vivo safety data that will enable testing of these chemistries in the clinic.
Key Qualifications
• Deep knowledge base in immunology, physiology, or the microbiome, including experience in preclinical animal models
• Proven track record of management of outsourced studies highly desirable
• Ability to think critically and creatively as part of a fast-paced research team
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to independently develop/evaluate protocols/methodologies
• Master’s (plus at least 5 years industry pharmacology experience) or PhD (plus 0-3 years relevant industry or academic pharmacology experience) degree in pharmacology, immunology or related field
• Excellent collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills
• The successful candidate will work closely with senior personnel as well as independently to design and execute pharmacology studies at external vendors/academic labs to support research activities and project goals
• Shared oversight of the all aspects of outsourced pharmacology studies, including contracts, study design, scheduling, oversight of execution, coordination between different labs
• Evaluation of data from pharmacology studies, including application of statistics
• Determine value and feasibility of the implementation of new animal model systems (academic and CROs)
• Contribute scientific leadership in area of technical expertise
